In 1969, 19 year old Richard Branson watched the moon landings on TV with his family, and decided that one day he too would see the wonder of space. But it wasn’t until 1995 that he had the opportunity to do anything about it.

Then he met astronaut Buzz Aldrin and discussed some of the possible issues with him. They both agreed that launching a spaceship from the air rather than the ground would overcome some of the safety and cost issues. Richard then asked the Virgin team to keep watch on new space launch technology.
