Chairs for office and every day use are as diverse in style, function and purpose as the people who use them. There are chairs designed to save space, to enhance back health, to swivel, adjust and recline. With so many chairs to choose from, it can be a daunting task to decide upon just the correct seat.

Ergonomic Office Chairs

The goal of ergonomic science is to make the workplace and equipment in the workplace meet the structural needs of the worker. Hard backed chairs without any consideration for the size or height of the worker have given way to chairs with mesh seats that "breathe" for the user's comfort. The same chair can be used for persons of differing heghts because the chair back and arms are adjustable. Most modern ergonomic chairs also have an ajustable lumbar area. Casters on the chair legs allow for easy movement and the steady base, usually with five legs, prevents tipping.

Stability Ball Chairs

As people become more health conscious, at least one piece of equipment from the gym has made its way into the office. Using a stability ball as an office chair may be a good idea for short periods of time; the ball helps the user to maintain a neutral spine and strengthens back muscles. However, after a period of time without lumbar or back support, the sitter begins to fatigue and slump. Addressing this concern, some stability ball chair now come with a back.
